Contributions to the Geological Map of Switzerland

The series of "Contributions to the Geological Map of Switzerland", in the form of explanatory and supplementary texts to accompany the geological maps, was produced from the very beginning of the Geological Survey of Switzerland in 1862, at that time through the federally appointed Geological Commission.

A first series serves chiefly to provide explanations for the General Geological Map at 1:200 000 scale. The second ("New") series serves primarily to give explanations for the special geological maps published mainly at 1:25 000 and 1:50 000 scales. In addition, numerous Contributions deal with special geological problems or are the culmination of many years of research into the regional geology of Switzerland.
