Free geodata

The geographic information strategy aims to increase the availability of high quality geographic information for management, business and individuals.

Following the entry into force of the new Ordinance on the Remuneration of the Federal Office of Topography (GebV-swisstopo) on 1 January 2010, Article 3, Paragraph 2 of the ordinance stipulates that “The Federal Office of Topography may waive remuneration for certain official services...”.

In order to promote the use of geodata, swisstopo make numerical data available free of charge.

 

The geodata of swisstopo in the portal for open government data

The new Swiss portal for open government data (OGD) opendata.swiss replaces the pilot portal opendata.admin.ch. The Confederation, cantons, communes and other organisations are offering their freely available data centrally on the platform, which is operated by the Federal Archives. The portal is a measure forming part of the Open Government Data Strategy for Switzerland 2014-18.
