Structure

The improvements and updates for 2008 and 2009 are already taken into account in swissALTI3D.

The data is delivered as a grid with an aperture width of 2 m, 5 m or 10 m. swissALTI3D is available in the following file formats:

  • Geotiff
  • ESRI ASCII Grid
  • ESRI File Geodatabase
  • ASCII X,Y,Z single space

Coordinate system:

swissALTI3D is available in the following Swiss coordinate systems:

  • LV03 LN02
  • LV95 LN02

Quality

The information provided corresponds to the accuracies of all three dimensions

Laser points (less than 2000 metres above sea level): ±0.5 m 1σ

DHM25 (more than 2000 metres above sea level): 3 - 8 m average error

Manual updates (individual points, breaklines and areas): 25 cm - 1 m average error

Applications

swissALTI3D can be used for a number of different applications and offers an ideal basis for a wide variety of areas. For example, it can be used:

  • as a height basic data set in a geographical information system
  • as a basis for 3D visualisations, simulations and visibility analyses
  • as a basis for mapping small structures and forest paths
  • as a planning tool in the fields of spatial planning, telecommunication, natural hazards and forestry
  • as a basis for orthorectification of aerial and satellite images
