GeoCover - Geological vector datasets
The GeoCover Project
In 2009 the Swiss Geological Survey launched the nationwide GeoCover project with the aim of providing geological vector datasets of the best possible quality by 2012. The basis for these 222 vector datasets is the following:
- Primarily the existing sheets of the Geological Atlas of Switzerland 1:25,000
(one- to three-digit numbering, e.g. GC-V-100 for Bern). - Enhancement through the most recent geological map material available. These so-called compilations are based on the Geological Special Maps and unpublished original maps of various scales
(four-digit numbering like the National Maps 1:25,000, e.g. GC-V-1193 for Tödi).
The geological vector datasets offer a state-of-the-art foundation for creating further geothematic datasets, e.g. in the domain of natural hazards or environmental issues.
Further geological vector data can be found at GeoMaps 1:500 000 and the Special Geological Maps.
The package includes:
- Data in Interlis (xtf) and Shape (shp)
- Explanation (where available), legends and attribute tables
- ArcGIS project (.mxd) with symbols (.lyr)
