Symbols and tactical graphics primarily serve the military staffs for the portrayal of situations and the graphic issue of orders. These standardised symbols and tactical graphics are the prerequisite for the unambiguous and clear exchange of information.
Basically, we distinguish between two categories:
- Symbols (units, equipment, weapons, installations) and
- Tactical graphics (borders, lines of command, areas, operations as well as portrayal of situations other than war).
Both symbols and tactical graphics can be augmented with text and numbers.
