Reason for the new ordinance on fees and charges
The Federal Geoinformation Act, which entered into force on 1 July 2008, called for the issue of a new ordinance to enter into effect on 1 January 2010 that regulates the payment of fees for the use of the geodata of the Federal Office of Topography. The geodata sets concerned are defined in the appendix to the Geoinformation Ordinance
.
Objectives of the new ordinance
- To increase the economic benefits of the swisstopo data by granting access to users for their own use at an affordable price
- To secure the sustainability of the geodata
- To adjust the fees model to modern forms of use of geodata
- To develop an ordinance that serves as a model for other federal authorities in the area of geoinformation, as well as for cantonal authorities (on a voluntary basis).
Impacts of the new ordinance
The new ordinance standardises, and in most cases reduces, the applicable fees for the use of geodata sets of the Federal Office of Topography. This also increases the overall economic benefits.
Scope of application of the new ordinance
The ordinance on fees and charges is applicable to all users of geodata sets of the Federal Office of Topography.
