In the closely related areas of official cadastral surveying and the public-law Restrictions on landownership (PLR) cadastre, the federal government is responsible for strategic management and overlying supervision. The office responsible for these tasks is the Federal Directorate of Cadastral Surveying (V+D), while the relevant cantonal authorities are responsible for official cadastral surveying and the PLR-cadastre.
Together with the information contained in the land register, the data in the official cadastral survey and the PLR-cadastre guarantee legal security in the area of property ownership. The associated mortgages amount to more than 700 billion Swiss francs, or over 100,000 Swiss francs per capita. In view of this, the value and the economic importance of readily available, binding and reliable data provided by the above instruments are very high.
