The primary objective is to achieve complete coverage of the whole of Switzerland. The tasks include the initial survey, renovation and revision as well as the maintenance and preservation of cadastral surveying (CS).
The main tasks are:
- Defining the strategy for the systematic and orderly planning, implementation and execution of the CS;
- Negotiating service contracts and agreements with the Cantons on the objectives to be achieved and guaranteeing and checking the corresponding payments;
- Definition of technical standards, maintenance and further development of the CS data model and preparation of the relevant documentation on the use of INTERLIS;
- Acceptance of survey work as the official cadastral survey in accordance with Federal law and making the relevant payment;
- Overall supervision of the execution of the cadastral survey.
Each Canton is looked after by a designated licensed surveyor from the federal Directorate; a total of 6 licensed surveyors are attending the 26 Cantons and the Principality of Liechtenstein.
