The range of duties of the Federal Directorate of Cadastral Surveying also encompasses technology-related activities and the ongoing development of official surveying and the public-law Restrictions on landownership (PLR) cadastre. The main activities of the Technology and Development section are as follows:
- Managing data models relating to official surveying and the PLR-cadastre
- Formulating technical standards
- Securing the publication of the metadata relating to official surveying and the PLR-cadastre
- Managing internal applications of swisstopo for use in the above areas
- Providing federal and cantonal authorities, as well as private individuals, with assistance and support in the above areas
- Carrying out research and development in these two areas of activity
- Managing projects in the two cited areas, and implementing them in close collaboration with the involved cantonal authorities.
