What is the Federal Geological Commission FGC?

The Federal Geological Commission (FGC) is a permanent extra-parliamentary commission, which advises the Federal Council on applied geology.

The Commission

  • takes in particular position on geological matters of principle for the Federal Council and the departments of the Federal Administration 
  • provides a decision-making basis and 
  • guarantees a neutral evaluation of geological appraisals.

 

Composition of the FGC

The commission consists of experts external to the administration.

Secretariat

The secretariat of the commission is managed through the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo. The contact between the federal offices and the commission is ensured by the secretariat.
