Geodesy Division is responsible for all geodetic aspects of the national survey. It produces and manages the basic geodetic reference data for the Swiss National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).
The basic geodetic data includes the underlying reference systems (datums), the definition of reference surfaces and map projections as well as their realisation in the form of reference frameworks, geoid models, control networks and permanent positioning networks. Together they serve to ensure an explicit and accurate geometrical connection between Swiss spatial data of all kinds and European and world reference systems. This in turn ensures the homogenous, distortion-free representation of geographical data* in Switzerland and enables them to be exchanged both nationally and internationally.
