In order to ensure easy and low-cost access to the best possible range of geographical information, a national spatial data infrastructure (NSDI) is being developed, which includes methods, institutions, technology, data and personnel. The willingness of the partners to commit themselves to sharing geographic data beyond organisational and administrative boundaries is very important for the success of the NSDI. To this end, e-geo.ch is intended to encourage networking and to coordinate the activities of those involved.
The e-geo.ch programme has been placed under the responsibility of a steering committee which brings together representatives of the Confederation (GCG-COGIS), the Cantons (KKGEO, KKVA, KPK), Swiss cities and municipalities as well as the Swiss Organisation for Geographic Information (SOGI) to represent the privat sector and non governmental associations.
