Infrastructure planning and land use planning will present specialists with major challenges in future. 3D models and their ability to visualise complex content can therefore be regarded as a key approach to solving such problems.
In geology, these challenges apply to the following fields of application in particular:

- Energy planning (e.g. thematic plan for deep geological repositories)
- Infrastructure planning (e.g. road and tunnel construction)
- Underground analysis
- Resources and raw materials planning
- Management of natural hazards
- etc.
