Digital data are becoming increasingly important, even in geology. Work is proceeding intensively on the capture of geological data in vector form, so that in the future a seamless geological database will become available for all of Switzerland.

Die Pixelkarten (.tiff) entstehen durch die Digitalisierung der gedruckten Karten. Die dabei angewendete Scan-Auflösung beträgt 254 dpi. Anschliessend wird die Pixelkarte georeferenziert (Erstellung einer .tfw-Datei) und kann somit ortsgetreu in jegliche GIS-Umgebung importiert werden.
