The new CHENyx06 triangular transformation network enables precise transformations from the old Swiss LV03 coordinate system to the new LV95 system and vice versa. The FINELTRA data viewer shows this triangular transformation network on an interactive map. It is possible to estimate the accuracy of the conversion between the LV03 and LV95 reference frames and thus also indirectly of the connection to international reference systems such as WGS 84 or ETRS89. WGS 84 is used as the reference frame for GPS observations and also, for example, for Google Earth and Google Maps.
For users of the swipos positioning service with real-time FINELTRA, the empirical accuracy map provides information on where GPS or GLONASS observations can achieve centimetre accuracy (without local adjustment) in the still-current LV03 reference frame. For the interpretation of the accuracy map and its application to cadastral surveys, please go to the relevant page of information on this website and see also the decision tree published on p. 6 of swipos news of April 2006. As an alternative to using swipos in real time, observations can be made in LV95 and relevant corrections can be made by post-processing through the REFRAME service. In this way it is possible to benefit immediately from the advantages of LV95. In this way it is possible to benefit immediately from the advantages of LV95.
This important accuracy information has been produced by swisstopo in cooperation with the Cantonal cadastral survey authorities. The transformation between the old Swiss LV03 reference frame and the new LV95 system is carried out using the FINELTRA algorithm. This is available free of charge, together with all relevant transformations for the whole of Switzerland, in the form of a geodata service on the swisstopo website. The REFRAME software is also available for purchase for professional use.
