Depending on how the parameters in the options file of the FINELTRA program are specified, it is possible that under some circumstances the computation with the CHENyx06 dataset may take a very long time or never be completed (program not responding or crash). This problem with FINELTRA can be attributed to the discontinuity between the Cantons of Vaud and Geneva.
In this zone of discontinuity there are triangles within the transformation network with very large deformations of up to ten million ppm (a factor of 10). It is for this reason that the production of a graphic (DXF) file containing such deformations leads to system performance problems in this area.
The following FINELTRA program options may be adopted in order to work round this problem:
- 1st variant: Do not produce a plot file => Leave plot file name blank in Menu 9
- 2nd variant: Do not display distortion ellipses and dilatation circles (representing the departure of the mean scale factor from unity) in the plot file => Enter «H S R» in Menu A-4
- 3rd variant: Select a very small scale for the display of the components of the distortion => Enter (for example) 1:20 in Menu A-6
