Transformations in height

swisstopo offers suitable transformation methods for all applications, either through online services over the Internet or commercially available geodetic software.

Height transformation CHTRS95 LHN95

The two height systems in CHTRS95 and LHN95 differ only with respect to the vertical datum (origin in Zimmerwald with connection to the tide gauge in Amsterdam or to the «Repère Pierre du Niton»). A height transformation is therefore possible with a translation:

HLHN95 = HCHTRF95 + Δh m (Value for Δh not yet determined!)

Basis horizon Repère Pierre du Niton and Zimmerwald
Height reference point Repère Pierre du Niton (left) and Zimmerwald (right)

Height transformation LHN95 LN02

An exact transformation is not possible because of the different nature of the systems (orthometric / levelled heights) and due to the large distortions in LN02. For a number of practical applications, however, an approximated transformation with the program HTrans and the corresponding parameters is sufficient and, depending on the area, yields approximations to LN02 at an accuracy within the cm or dm.
