• Qualification: Computer scientist / platform development with Federal Certificate of Competence (FCC)
• Field of study: Platform development
• Duration: 4 years (1st year of training externally with basic training provider  ICT Training Center Ltd.  in Bern)
• Gibb vocational school in Bern with the option of attending BMS (vocational baccalaureate school)

Typical tasks for computer scientists:

• Installation, configuration and maintenance of ICT end devices (PCs, printers, etc.) for employees Collaboration in the operation and further development of the swisstopo cloud infrastructure Resolution of system errors and user problems in productive system landscapes Collaboration in the development and maintenance of IT systems (server environments with specialist application operation) Collaboration on projects (analysis, design, implementation, integration, etc.)

Your apprenticeship at swisstopo

• What prerequisites do I need and what are the requirements for me:

  • Secondary school or very good secondary school leaving certificate (10th school year is an advantage)
  • high motivation to learn
  • Flexibility, perseverance and patience
  • Technical understanding and systematic approach to work
  • Strong team spirit and independence

• What further training opportunities do I have after my apprenticeship?

  • Professional examinations for specialisations (e.g. ICT Platform Development Specialist)
  • Higher technical college for certified computer scientists
  • Universities of applied sciences for a Bachelor's degree in computer science (BMS is a prerequisite)
  • Courses and seminars also offer targeted in-depth training in areas such as IT security and agile project management
