Abstract

This report compiles the proceedings of the 10-Year Anniversary Workshop of the Mont Terri Project, held in May 2006 in St-Ursanne, Switzerland. The workshop brought together scientists from twelve international partner organisations to reflect on a decade of research in the Mont Terri Rock Laboratory, focusing on Opalinus Clay as a host rock for radioactive waste disposal. Key research themes included coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical processes, transport phenomena, and large-scale demonstration experiments. Contributions addressed fracture development, diffusion, gas migration, and repository feasibility.
The proceedings also highlighted the evolution of the project, the structure and hydrogeology of the site, and future research directions. The workshop underscored the scientific significance of the Mont Terri initiative and the importance of underground research laboratories for advancing knowledge and confidence in deep geological repositories.
