Dorian Ramos receives the prestigious Swiss Cartography Award in the “Start” category for his castle map. This map was created as part of his apprenticeship as a geomatician with swisstopo. It provides information on the location, condition, and age of castles and fortresses around Lake Gruyère.

On October 27, 2023, the Swiss Society of Cartography (SGK) awarded the renowned Swiss cartography prize "Prix Carto" 2023 for the tenth time. In the "Start" category, Dorian Ramos was honored for his contribution titled "Historical Castles and Ruins." The map is the result of his individual practical work, which he completed in the summer of 2023 as part of his four-year apprenticeship as a geomatics specialist at swisstopo.

Historical Buildings and Ruins around Lake Gruyère

The map provides information on the location, condition, and age of the castles and fortresses in the Lake Gruyère area. It exists as a paper map, but a digital version also provides additional locations and information on former and presumed castles and palaces. The SGK praised the successful combination of traditional and modern cartography, as well as the in-depth interaction with users. The jury also commended the improved research capabilities and easier access to valuable additional information about the castles and ruins.

Geomatics Apprenticeship at swisstopo
