EuroGeoSurveys EGS
The heads of the national geological surveys, EuroGeoSurveys (EGS), from 32 countries of Europe meet once a year. The main objective of EGS is to make geological knowledge widely available and thus to promote competitive capacity and protection of the environment in the countries of the EU.
The scientific work of EGS is managed and coordinated by ten expert groups and a task force comprising several hundred experts. They ensure the provision of freely accessible, harmonised geological maps, data and data infrastructures. Basic geological data is used throughout Europe for sustainable subsurface planning and regulation.
Organisation
The EGS Administrative Board consists of 37 directors from European geological surveys. EGS supports the initiation of joint research projects within the framework of the EU research programme Horizon 2020 and is committed to the development of a harmonised international database.
EroGeoSurveys focuses exclusively on activities that are in the interest of the general public or the public administration. The current objectives are, on the one hand, joint research programmes and, on the other hand, Europe-wide harmonisation and exchange of geological data.
