The panorama mode

You want to know which panorama surrounds you? With one click you look through your camera and the most important places and summits are labelled in the camera image. Or discover the view virtually from any point on the map.

There are various ways of launching panorama mode:

• From your current location
• From any point on the map
• From a tour

• Can I move forward in panorama mode?

  • When starting the panorama mode via the current location, forward movement is not possible.
  • If you start the panorama mode from a marker (any point on the map), you can move in the virtual space to the tapped location by double-tapping.
  • If the panorama mode started via a tour, you can move along the route by moving your finger along the elevation profile.

• The silhouette does not fit onto the mountain summits. What can I do?

  

  If the panoramic image does not fit exactly onto the camera image, simply slide it onto the camera image using your finger.

• Why is the panorama mode not available on my device? Why can't I see the panorama mode icon?

  In order to use the panorama mode of the swisstopo app, you will need to install the latest version of Google Play Services for AR. Not all devices and operating system versions fulfil the necessary system requirements. On these devices the buttons for the panorama mode are missing in the swisstopo app. Whether your smartphone supports the necessary AR/VR services you can find on this website: ARCore supported devices  | Google for Developers

• What is the camera image in panorama mode for?

  On one hand, the camera image is necessary to overlay and label the contours on the camera image. On the other hand, it is also necessary to stabilize the virtual image and to adapt it to the movements you make with the smartphone (optimisation of display). The camera image is neither transferred nor saved.
