Free basic geodata (OGD)
swisstopo makes its official data and products available online for free use. This step is being taken as part of the federal government's policy on open administrative data in Switzerland, also known as Open Government Data (OGD).
Where can I find the data?
The digital geodata from swisstopo which can be downloaded free-of-charge from the Internet or used via geoservices is primarily aimed at professional users.
Are you an engineer, architect, programmer or planner? Or do you work in research or science? This link will take you directly to the current data for your requirements.
If you need earlier versions of data, you can obtain this from geodata@swisstopo.ch. In this case, you will be charged for the costs of processing the data. For more information, see: conditions for geodata.
If you just want to view geodata or print it out at home, you will find over 850 datasets on a wide range of topics on the map viewer of the Swiss Federal Geoportal map.geo.admin.ch.
General information on obtaining geodata
Various options are available for downloading swisstopo geodata, depending on the data set. Large data sets are divided into spatial units for downloading. In the case of smaller data sets, the complete data content in its full geographical extent will be delivered. A user interface helps you select and download the geodata. An application programming interface (API) also enables you to obtain the data.
Geoservices with swisstopo geodata
Many of swisstopo's geodata can be freely accessed via the geoservices of the Federal Spatial Data Infrastructure (FSDI). The geoservices allow the most up-to-date swisstopo geodata to be consumed online without having to worry about storing and updating the data.
