Long-term conservation

swisstopo is required to guarantee the availability of its official geodata by the Federal Geoinformation Act. Conservation ensures that the geodata remain usable over the long term. Availability is assured through long-term conservation and archiving.

Thanks to long-term conservation and archiving of geodata, single snapshots and time series based on these images are made available.

Archiving of geodata

swisstopo and the Swiss Federal Archives developed a solution for the indefinite archiving of geodata in the form of the Ellipse project. The Ellipse project was completed at the end of 2016.
