A journey through time – National Map 1:50'000
The journey through time is now available for the National map 1:50'000. Analyse the evolution of the Swiss landscape from 1938 to the present day on the map viewer map.geo.admin.ch or with the geoservices of the Federal Geodata Infrastructure.
Visualisation in map.geo.admin.ch
Simply add the “ National Map 1:50'000 ” layer and activate the “ time ” function by pressing the clock on the right-hand side of the map viewer (need help?). The time slider will appear, allowing you to select a year. The most up-to-date combination of map sheets for that date is then displayed for the whole of Switzerland (data availability permitting).
Advanced visualisation with temporal information
The “ Division national map 50 Raster ” layer is synchronised with the “ National Map 1:50'000 ” layer. It documents, by map sheet wtih a map scale of 1:50'000, the temporal state of the map content displayed. By clicking on a sheet, you can see the name, the number and the current year of the selected sheet.
A supplement to the journey through time – maps
Since 2013, the journey through time – maps has enabled users to explore more than 180 years of Swiss history. It combines 3 generations of maps produced by swisstopo: the Dufour Map, the Siegfried Map and the National Map, in different scales: 1:25’000, 1:50’000 or 1:100’000. With this tool, anyone can quickly and easily observe the impressive evolution of the territory since the middle of the 19th century.
To facilitate accurate temporal analyses, swisstopo plans to implement the time travel function for each map collection separately. By doing this, the displayed map remains the same regardless of the zoom level applied by the user.
Currently, the National Map 1:25'000, 1:1'50'000 and the Siegfried Map are available in this mode.
Also available via geoservice
The “National Map 1:50'000” and “Division national map 50 Raster” layers are available in the WMS portrayal service of the Federal Spatial Data Infrastructure (FSDI).
The “National Map 1:50'000” layer is also available in the WMTS portrayal service.
