Map viewer

Discover swisstopo maps and geodata with ease on your screen. Measure distances and areas, compare current and historical aerial photographs or add a drawing. You can print out the result or share it with your friends.

With the interactive map viewer, you have access to a wide range of swisstopo data. In addition to maps of all scales, these include current and historical aerial photographs, landscape models, elevation models and geological maps. Data on reference systems, boundaries, geographical names and property information is also available. With the “Journey through time” function, you can follow changes in Switzerland's landscape based on maps and aerial photographs.

More than just swisstopo data

The map viewer “” includes about 150 data sets from the Swiss Federal Office of Topography. However, it also provides access to many other topics and data sets from the federal government and the cantons. The continuous addition of new content and regular updates of the some 1000 data sets already available, ensure that the information remains current.

Working with the maps

Various tools assist you in using the information available on the maps. For example, you can measure, draw or compare two data sources. With the “Share” function, you can share the results with anyone .  Any selected content is also printable on pages up to size A3. In the practical online help section, you will find detailed instructions for all tools and functions.

Also available on the go

The map viewer also works on smartphones and tablets. By activating the GPS function, you can see your current position on the map. To use the viewer without network reception, save the desired map sections locally on your smartphone. Depending on your mobile phone subscription, this will also allow you to avoid data-transfer costs.
