Protected areas and wildlife
The authorities have set apart designated wildlife areas and wildlife reserves to protect wild animals and forests (see legend). Details regarding the regulations and protection periods of individual designated wildlife areas and wildlife zones as well as restrictions on permitted paths/routes can be found on the respective online portals by clicking on the area or on a corresponding element.
Designated wildlife areas and wildlife reserves are adapted as necessary to reflect changing conditions. This map shows the status as of the editorial deadline. For the most up-to-date information, please consult the platform of the Federal Office for the Environment FOEN and in the map viewer of the Swiss Confederation:
Designed wildlife areas and wildlife reserves on the Federal Geoportal:
Low temperatures and a scarce food supply in winter force wild animals, such as the black grouse or the chamois, to conserve energy. Each escape caused by snow sports enthusiasts off the marked slopes results in loss of valuable energy.
To make your tour wildlife-friendly, follow these simple rules:

2 Stay on marked paths and routes in the forest.
3 Avoid forest edges and snow-free surfaces.
4 Always keep your dog on a lead, especially in the forest.
