“For schools”
The digital map catalogue “For schools” immerses pupils in a chosen topic and expands their knowledge. It’s full of wow factor and aha moments.
The “For schools” service provided by swisstopo offers everything you could ask for from a digital map. As a teacher, you will have comprehensive information about the most varied fields of life at your fingertips. Perhaps you’d like to work with your class to track down the ibex colonies in Switzerland or discover the origin of a type of cheese? With a single click on maps.schoolmaps.ch, (almost) anything is possible.
All corners of life
“For schools” is aimed at primary and secondary school teachers of children aged nine and over. A category can be chosen in the data set to illustrate a particular topic according to level and lesson plan. It offers a wide range of subject matter, including society, food, nature, energy, the military and history, as well as a host of other categories which provide an immersive and thought-provoking experience: for example, how much traffic noise do the people of Switzerland have to put up with during the night? Or what does the distribution of permafrost look like? Informative answers to these questions are available at maps.schoolmaps.ch.
Time travelling using aerial photographs
A beneficial side effect of this is that the pupils learn how to use maps, thereby gaining important navigation skills. On the maps.schoolmaps.ch platform, they will also encounter the “Time travelling” collection, which consists of both recent and historical aerial photographs. If you integrate the “For schools” service into your teaching practice, the entire class will get a new perspective.
