Strategy and Steering

The ‹Strategy and Steering› department combines several of the office's cross-departmental tasks, such as business management, corporate development, various management activities (strategy management, programme and project management, portfolio management, risk management, information security management, corporate architecture and procurement management), as well as the processing and clarification of legal issues. This centralisation has enabled swisstopo to simplify its management structure and to exploit synergies by clearly defining responsibilities.

Tasks and objectives

  • Strategic orientation: developing and implementing swisstopo's long-term strategy.
  • Business management: monitoring business processes, key performance indicators and resource allocation; assisting management as well as managing the reception
  • Legal service and procurement: managing procurement, providing legal advice and support to all units, reviewing contracts, monitoring legislative procedures, data protection and the office's advisory service for the public, as well as a specialist unit for corruption.
  • Corporate development: identifying growth opportunities and initiating change processes.
  • Portfolio management: control and monitoring of projects and specialized applications.
  • Risk management: identification, assessment and minimization of risks.
  • Governance and security: ensuring compliance with laws, regulations and internal guidelines.
  • Central point of contact: central point of contact for GS VBS-related affairs
  • Programme and project management: management and control of office-wide programmes and projects
