Cartography
The Cartography Division is responsible for the analogue and digital cartographic depiction of the earth’s surface and its coverage in Switzerland and adjacent parts of its neighbouring countries on the basis of the fundamentals provided by the Topography Division.
The Cartography Division is responsible for the production and updating of the Swiss national maps and cartographic data in analogue and digital form. It also produces various thematic maps and software for mobile use for both civil and military purposes.
Tasks
The Cartography Division's main tasks are as follows:
- Periodically updating the national maps and their publication in analogue and digital form
- Producing and updating thematic maps on the basis of the national maps
- Producing special maps and providing cartographic services for the armed forces, administrative authorities and the private sector
- Providing software for the national maps intended for mobile use
- Providing vocational education for trainee geomaticians specialising in cartography as well as in geoinformatics.
