Survey
The Division of «Geodesy and Federal Directorate of Cadastral Surveying» (or «Surveying Division» for short) is the federal authority responsible for the combined tasks of official cadastral surveying and the Cadastre of public-law restrictions on landownership (PLR Cadastre) as well as for the national geodetic survey.
Reference systems, definitions of reference areas and map projection systems, as well as their implementation in the form of reference frames with reference points, geoid models, permanent global navigation satellite system (GNSS) networks and positioning services, are all processed and managed within the scope of the national geodetic survey. Thanks to these basic geodetic criteria and reference data for the national geodata infrastructure, it is possible to depict geodata and their national and international exchangeability accurately and in a homogeneous manner.
The Surveying Division is responsible for the strategic management and supervision of the official cadastral survey and the Cadastre of public-law restrictions on landownership (PLR Cadastre). For this purpose it works closely together with the relevant cantonal authorities, who are responsible for the associated operational activities.
