The national geodata infrastructure for efficient and networked mobility.
The Swiss Transport Network optimises and expands on public sector transport infrastructure data, provides reliable basic data and makes transport infrastructure and mobility data combinable and generally usable.
Switzerland's mobility system is to become more flexible, more intelligent and more sustainable. There is still great potential here: the better networked the mobility system is and the more accessible the information is, the more efficiently infrastructures can be planned and utilised.
This requires a reliable data basis. Much of this data on Switzerland's transport network is already available in high quality. However, datasets are distributed across different levels of government and usually cannot be linked to each other. Some of them are duplicated and maintenance is time-consuming.
Project contribution
The Transportation network CH is intended to optimise and expand the transport data infrastructure of the public sector, to provide reliable basic data, and to make the data on transport infrastructure and mobility combinable and broadly usable. In this way, it will reduce redundancies and promote innovation. Thus, Transportation network CH will generate manifold benefits for the public sector, for the economy and for society.
Realisation phase
The Federal Council commissioned the implementation of the project to the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo in February 2022. Transportation network CH will be built up gradually on the basis of the concept and in close coordination with DETEC's work on the future mobility data infrastructure (MODI). The first products (named “swissTNE") were published on the 10th of May 2023.
