Tours for groups

Groups can choose between five tours with different areas of focus. The tours last two to three hours. A group can consist of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 45 people.

1 GeodataLab

(2 hours, max. 30 people)

Discover the world of geodata interactively and in 3D using augmented reality glasses. The tour also provides fascinating insights into the process of creating and publishing maps.

2 From surveying the landscape to producing geodata and maps

(2 hours, max. 45 people)

During this tour, you will gain an understanding of the different stages involved in producing geodata – from land surveying, the recording and processing of aerial images, to the creation of maps and the publication of the resulting products.

3 Coordination and preservation activities at swisstopo

(2 hours, max. 45 people)

Learn more about land surveying, swisstopo’s coordinating tasks and the history of the Federal Office. After this tour, you will also be familiar with the tasks of the Swiss Geological Survey.

4 Digital geodata production

(3 hours, max. 30 people)

Discover how geodata is produced – from land surveying, the recording and processing of aerial images, to the creation of maps and the publication of the resulting products. You will also have the chance to dive interactively into the fascinating world of 3D geodata using augmented reality glasses.

5 Geoinformation in four dimensions

(3 hours, max. 45 people)

Gain insights into the history of swisstopo and the tasks of the Swiss Geological Survey, and discover more about the processes involved in creating and publishing maps. You will also experience the world of geodata interactively and in 3D using augmented reality glasses.

Good to know...

Who can take part?
Groups of between 15 and 45 people.
Minimum age of 13, or schoolchildren in year 8 or above.

When are the tours available?
Between January and June and between September and November. Preferably on a Tuesday or Thursday.

Language
The guided tours for groups are available in German, French and English.

Duration
Around two to three hours, depending on the tour.

At the end of the tour, you will have the opportunity to buy maps at discounted prices.

As of September 13, 2021, the certificate obligation will apply to the guided tours. swisstopo has the task of checking the Covid certificates of visitors. Therefore, in addition to a valid certificate, please bring a document of identification with you. In order to comply with the applicable coronavirus regulations, we would like to point out that access to the building will be granted no earlier than 10 minutes before the start of the event. Please do not arrive too early. We reserve the right to remind people in the entrance area of the regulations and ask them to wait in the outside area.
