Other services
Our specialists derive further products from the swisstopo geodata. This enables us to cover both frequently requested and very specific customer needs.
Some examples:
Calculation of terrain contours
Terrain contours are derived directly from a digital height model, generally swissALTI3D.
Technical aspects:
- Minimal equidistance 1 metre
- Delivery formats: Shapefile or DXF/DWG
Terrain FBX
The terrain model in FBX format is represented as a 3D mesh, analogous to the GeoAdmin Terrain Service. The FBX format is well suited for use in various 3D modelling, augmented or virtual reality (AR/VR) development environments.
Technical aspects:
- The terrain is offered in regular tiles.
- The tile size is 1/16 of a 1:25'000 national map sheet (approx. 13km2).
- You can choose between different resolution levels, min. 0.5- max. 128.
- Each resolution level corresponds to the tolerance in metres permitted in the generalization process.
- Significant terrain forms such as crests, peaks and large differences in altitude are retained at each resolution level.
You can find more information about augmented reality technology here.
Buildings OBJ
By offering the buildings of swissBUILDINGS3D 3.0 Beta in OBJ format, the integration of the 3D data set into AR/VR development environments and applications is facilitated.
Technical aspects:
- The buildings are grouped in regular tiles (tile size is 1/16 of a 1:25'000 national map sheet (approx. 13km2))
- The buildings can be controlled as independent objects.
- The buildings are available as closed solid models (roof and building) and as surface models with separate roofs, facades and footprints.
- The attributes including the building position are saved per tile in a JSON file.
- Further product specifications can be found on the swissBUILDINGS3D 3.0 Beta product page

The 3D geodata and visualisations listed here are customised at the request of the client. They are not included in our download offer and belong to the geodata that cannot be downloaded directly. For this reason, provision fees are charged when an order is placed. Further information can be found here: Conditions for Geodata.
