Important swisstopo projects

New Swiss Height System

In the summer of 2024, swisstopo initiated the ‹New Swiss Height System› project. The aim is to modernise the current Swiss height reference system, which is over 100 years old and does not take into account the effects of the gravitational field.

swisstopo makes its geodata BIM-compatible

Ever more geodata now have to meet the requirements of building information modelling (BIM). With its geoBIM strategy, the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo is addressing this issue, has defined various fields of action and formulated corresponding measures. The aim is to develop national standards for coordinated high-quality data that can be widely used.

Transportation network CH

The national geodata infrastructure for mobility is being built with the Transportation network CH. This means that spatial data on Switzerland's transport system can be exchanged, linked and used more easily and efficiently in the future - even across national borders.

Drought

As part of the «Drougth Project», the Federal Office of Topography swisstopo, the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss and the Federal Office for the Environment FOEN are jointly developing a national early warning system for drought. Swisstopo supports these efforts by providing pre-processed satellite images and vegetation indices that can be analysed.
